As I said before, I am a MARKETING student at Michigan State University. I am fortunate enough to be the student-intern for MSU's campus-wide initiative of bringin music marketing to the forefront of MSU. The academic year of 2007-2008 is officially the "Year of Music Marketing."What do you think of when MSU comes to mind? Athletics? Yes. Agriculture? Certainly. Arts? Culture? Not so much. Our goals as the YAC committee is to put MSU artistic and cultural programs on the map and into the immediate collective student/faculty consciousness. This will take time and it starts now. This year. The Year of Arts and Culture! It's ridiculous how much Michigan State has to offer in terms of events. There are hundreds of events compiled on the YAC website (if I haven't done enough promoting yet, here it is: http://www.artsandculture.msu.edu/). Having all the information in one spot and updated constantly (by intern, yours truly) makes it easy for you to find plays, exhibits, lectures, anything arts and culture related. Seriously, it's awesome.I feel really fortunate to be a part of the YAC. In the time I've been working on the committee, I feel my mind has opened up to things to do on campus that I never would have gotten my butt out of the house for. I feel I've already benefitted from many of the Year of Arts and Culture events and it's only October. I get really excited thinking about all the events I want to attend. What are those, you ask? Well, here are a few:1. The Paper Sculpture Show-Interactive exhibit at Art Museum at MSU2. Arts OR Crafts-Student play written for YAC3. Bryan Chrisite Exhibit-Showing of kick-ass a 3D graphic designerNot even the tip of the iceberg, people. Also, there are quite a few pole banners around campus with the elegant, chic YAC logo. Next time you see one just take a moment to marvel at the possibilities the campaign could bring you. Not too long though; it could be mind-blowing.There's more about YAC on http://www.thebiggreen.net/article.php?id=911. The Big Green is sweet also. Take a look see.
